Roar from front end

I have a roar from the front end that sounds like I have off road tires on but I have street tires. The sound has gotten progressively worse the last month or so. The tires are good, only 1 year old and I have relatively new ball joints and shocks. The sound stays the same when the hubs are locked or not. It come in at speed and is not effected by the rpms. I jacked up the front and there is no play in the wheel hub bearings that I can tell.

I feel like that would be the answer but since everything is so tight I didn't want to ink up on something if I didn't need it. It's on my 2002 4x4 Ex with 160,000 miles. Thanks

When you say it's not affected by RPMs are you saying it sounds the same at 55 and at 70? Check your plastic cooling fan for cracked blades. They make one hell of a noise when they're missing a piece.

What I mean is the sound goes with vehicle speed and if I kick it in neutral it does change the sound at all.

Cheap tires can do that. If you need a second opinion on this, look into Car Talk on NPR. [LINK]

I would say its a bearing,I replaced my hubs a couple years ago,but due to the PO running a bad hub unit too long the outer shaft was worn a little and the new hub didn't last long,so my roar is back,I know my bearing is bad..

If the tire pressure is where it should be, you might want to rotate them front to back and see if that helps. And wheel bearings is another possibility. Cheap tires can do that too. Alignment OK?

I did the ball joints a year ago and after that I got it aligned and new tires. The tires were very quiet. Unless it busted a belt or something I don't think it's the tires. I had them road force balanced a month or two ago because of a vibration and there was nothing wrong with them then... That being said maybe I will rotate front to back to see if noise changes to eliminate them. I guess I'm leaning toward bearing but I hate throwing money at stuff haha.

Mine roars more lately, but at first it would only roar if I come to a hard stop,it sounded like metal to metal brakes, but it's gotten worse lately,it roars all the time now, especially if I"m pulling anything or have any weight in the bed..

I also have newish rotors and pads. It started doing it at high speeds but now I notice it at around 25 mph.

You can tell a lot about how a tire wears by running your hand around the tread. This is especially true if the tires have an aggressive tread. Compare the front tires with the back and see if you notice a difference. And, check air pressure. With it getting colder, the tire pressure drops some so you need to check and add accordingly.

The tires are wearing very evenly with no cupping or "saw tooth" patterns. They are Pirelli Scorpion ATRs that have 11- 12000 miles on them and are a little over a year old. I will try the rotation thing tomorrow so I can rule them out. I got a buy 2 get 2 free deal on them and had to buy some crazy warranty on them so If there is something wrong I am supposed to get new ones... We'll see
