Steering column

I have a 1977 F250 2wd 351m column shift automatic. The steering column (shifter selector) has broken. I can't select gears. Will a column from a 78 f250 4wd work in place of the old one. Thanks in advance.

Stoney, it should, I would think that any differences would be below the column, in the truck. I am guessing though.

The main difference between Ford truck steering columns is - manual steering vs power steering.
The power steering column is about 3" shorter than the manual steering column. That's because the power steering box is about 3" longer at the bottom. I'm currently using a power steering column out of '75 on a manual steering '72. It simply puts the wheel a little closer to the dash.
