LOOKING TO PURCHASE - NEED INPUT!!!

Hello Ford Fellows!

I am currently looking to purchase a 2005 Excursion, 6.0L V8 32V turbo, 4wd. The Ex was prviously owned by the local police department. its looks to be in pretty good condition. Its lifted, with all the standard options you would see in a police vehicle. I have always wanted an Excursion and ready to make that step, I just wanted some feed back as to what you all think is the best year, options, concerns, etc.... the price seems to be competetive for the market, the only thing that scares me is that it was government owned... Hope to get some good feed back!

Thanks for your time!

How many miles and exactly how much are they asking for.

What kind of problem do you have with previously Government own vehicle?

I would say depends on what the vehicle were used for by the PD? other government agency vehicles lease their vehicle thru GSA and only follow the shedule maintenance, fix only when broken down...
If this Excursion own by GSA then it is about 60K miles or less. I heard PD department cruiser often go beyond 100K miles.

To VQT- there are only 89000 +/- miles on it, they are asking 17000 for it but im sure i wcan get em down a bit...

As far as exactly where or what agency im not sure yet, ill find out more when i go to talk to the dealer.

I have a buddy that had said before he would never buy a previously owned government vehicle, and hes the head mechanic for one of the larger cites in our county... Just because of the abuse they (gov workers) apply to said vehicles..

I diesel can take a lot of abuse, and most PD's with the larger SUV's only use them for transporting people. If you go over the truck and its not all beat up that mileage is nothing. I would look into the Banks 6.0 diesel Preventive maintanence kit. It fixes all the issues the 6.0 might have, its about 2500.00 not sure the cost to have it put in thou. Good luck with it. I love my EX.

idling is one of the 6.0's worst enemies and police vehicles do a LOT of idling. I'd be hesitant because of that. Never buy a 6.0 without a shop that knows them checking them out first. If the headgasket EGR and coolers need replaced that is a $5k bill.
