Unknown territory. 300L6 help
On a 351w, you could-
-Add headers
-Camshaft/lifters
-True Double Roller Timing Chain
-Port the heads (Depending on if they're the e7's or not......The e7's are a good factory set of heads to start with)...
And have more hp/tq than a 300.....
BUT....
In terms of reliability....The 300 is almost unequaled....
For that same $1,500 budget on a 300...
-Keep the EFI exhaust manifolds....They're nearly identical to the aftermarket headers from Hedman.....Just sayin'...
-Bore the engine .030" to clean, and re-square the bores up to factory specs...
-Add flat top pistons to raise the Compression Ratio (OR, just shave the head)...
-Port the head out (This, by far is the best way to effectively, dollar for dollar, way to wake a 300 up)...
-Add larger valves
-An Isky Racing 256 camshaft
And then, MAYBE....You'd MIGHT be to 200-250-ish hp range with the 300....Then again, the simplicity of the engine, and ease of maintenance.....To ME, is worth just keeping the engine...
Not counting, the added cost of the engine mounts, the 351w engine, the radiator, computer, etc......Money that could go on the 300....
Just my personal opinion...keep the good ol' 300....

I'm working on a 5.0 to 4.9 swap in my bronco right now that I have high hopes for. I won't argue that the 351 isn't a good, powerful engine (eventually plan to have a 351 based stroker in the capri) but for a good all around engine a well built 300 is tough to beat.
