hello!! all
i have a 80 f150 that has a inline 6 300 4.9 i'm having trouble with the head that i had the studs replaced and now i can't seem to get it to torque down the way they should and i'm about at the end of my limit and i would like to find out what other engine's will go in with out changeing to much.
thanks for any and all input.
cliff..
The 302 & 351 will change out with the 300, but you will need stuff like the motor mount pedestals, radiator, wiring harnesses, exhaust, and the flexplate or flywheel for the 302 or the 351 Windsor, whichever you decide to use. You will not have to change the bell housing on the transmission because the 300 uses the small block bolt pattern.
If there's anything I missed, I'm sure somebody else will jump in & come to my aid.

Cliff: Why not go with another 300 and preserve history? No doubt the easiest swap for compatability. If it is more power you need, I have heard awsome power comes from Clifford performance with a CAM, header, and a 4BBL carb. Check out their website. Everone has a V-8, but High Output 6's are too few and far between. Sounds like you have a good canidate for the upgrade. (pre-computer controlled easy to upgrade).
thanks for the info. and you gave me a good start on my search thanks.
this might change things a little but i forgot to say that it has a 4-speed and is a 4x4.

Keep the six. I have an 88 with a few mods. I can pull with my buddies stock 5.0. Just go with a good intake and exhaust. One other thing is to upgrade to a good ignition. That seems to be the one thing that most people forget. Keep in mind the brag factor when someone asks "Damn, what ya got in that thing" The look on their face after being thumped by a six is priceless.
Good luck,
BLACK
