EBPV

I was told that cold the ebpv would open to help the engine get warm. Is it normal for it to do it at normal op temp?

The EBPV CLOSES to help the engine warm up, and yes it is possible for it to malfunction and close while the engine is at operating temperature. Unplug the electrical connector and see if that doesn't stop the problem from happening. It is a little 2 wire connector under the intake side of the turbo. It won't hurt anything to run it unplugged, in fact quite a few (myself included) have deleted the EBPV all together.

Yes, better exhaust flow, less EGTs, better perfomance and less possibility of oil leak. But you can use it like a CHEAP exhaust brake

Nope, you only deactivate the function. To delete it you have to eliminate the butterfly in the exhaust housing and also you can delete the part that its integrated in the turbo pedestal where the rod its in.

I just unplugged it for a temporary fix on a long haul upnorth. Then took turbo out and rebuilt it while i welded the plugs shut. Not that hard just a time consuming job. Many have done.

Thanks for the welcome! I tried the exhaust break mod but I couldnt get it to work. Voltage right to it had no effect, and disconnecting it did not stop it from activating when the truck is cold. Oh well...

It sounds to me like the solenoid or the cylinder has failed. You should be able to wire (tie) the linkage open to keep it from closing.

The rod on the pedestal should be in the OUT position to have the EBPV OPEN. In is closed I believe.

The rod should be out toward the passenger side VC to open the valve. I don't have a great picture, but this one gives you an idea what you're looking at.
