early to late setup

Okay after long contemplating this job I finally got most of it apart. Still haven't got the uppipe bolt on the passenger side out but the rest is out.
Did those that did this have to take out the filter bowl to get the passenger side plenum off? Seems the fuel lines are in the way. Also what is the tork on the plenum bolts, thought I had it but can't find it? As hard as it is to get those uppipes off, I have a set of 2002 uppipes but am going to order bellow uppipes from Clay tomorrow. Is there an easy way to get the top bolt out of the passenger side uppipes without taking the exhaust out? And just to check, 12 inch pounds equals one foot pound correct? All your help is deeply appreciated. I am feeling my age now, the last five years fighting cancer has taken alot out of me.
God Bless, Chet

Also for those that want to do this, there is a big difference in the spiders. The turbo outlet side is much bigger and the hole boot on the early plenum fits inside the new plenums. Yes I do have Clay plenum inserts. This setup is so much more in the air volume then the early 99 setup. Next, 38R and 200 injectors. Early this year I hope.

Chet I would think the fuel bowl and lines need to come out to do plenums. I had it easy with my up pipes because I have the trans out. But I did end up having to cut the lower up pipe bolts. I used a sawsall and a 3 inch cut off wheel.
And yes 12lbs/in equals 1lbs/ft. Sorry I don't have torque specs on hand. It will be awhile before my goes back together. And mine is going all back together with stock e99 set up.
And if I didn't live so far from you I would come give you hand. So you just take your time and don't over do yourself buddy.

Thanks ED. I appreciate the offer. I took the fuel filter bowl out much easier. The last bolt by the filter housing doesn't come out all the way for the plenums without removing the complete front cover. Lucky the plenum is slotted at that bolt. I ordered bellow up pipes so I know I won't have to deal with this again. I got that turbo if you still need it. It ran fine but dose have 158K on it. You can PM me and I'll give you my cell so we can talk. God bless, Chet

Thanks Chet for the offer on the turbo. I got my turbo apart as we speak and wheels and housing are good just needs bearings and seals. I was scared it was going to be junk but I think I'm good.
I think that is a great idea as far doing the up pipes and turbo. You might also want to kick around the idea of replacing the fuel rail banjo bolt oring and the high pressure oil plug gasket on the back of each head. I just pulled mine out and am replacing with updated o ring. Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines
And I also got the banjo bolt orings from Bob but they are not on his website. I also did a banjo bolt mod since they were out I have a pic on my profile. The updated orings due to the change in fuel since e99. The parts were cheap and now is the time to do them with turbo and up pipes out of your way. Besides I don't want to see you have to take it back apart for $2 oring.

when i did the upgrade i did not remove the fule bowl. just remove the lines and move them out of the way. ther is one bolt that is hard to get at in frunt but you dont nead to remove it just back it out some ther is a slot in the plenum and you can slide it out.

Know problem Ed. I just thought I'd bring it up. Its been so long for me to do this job and I'm finally making progress. I see you can get your truck in the garage all the way. I can only get the front on mine in, and thats with a clean garage. I had to finish that first. My stuff and my gril storing it was full. I'll look into the banjo bolt and fuel rail. Mine aren't leaking but thanks for the advise. Thanks Chet

I saw that but I like to tork everthing if I can so I pulled it. I still won't be able to tork that one bolt probably but its out. I just didn't plan to remove the hole top end. Hay how do you like that 140v IDM? I've thought about that to. Did it make a difference that you can notice? Is its swamps or somebody else's? Man what a difference in the plenums when side by side. And the spider intake to. Its got to help on egt's. Do you tow and how did it help you?

Chet,

Good tunes will be every bit as effective as a 140V IDM. The only difference the higher voltage IDM does is slightly, and I mean very slightly, advance the SOI (start of injection) timing. Good tunes involve advancing the SOI timing. I'm still running my E99 110V IDM.

Also with the taller 99.5+ turbo pedestal my down pipe made contact with the tranny dipstick tube. You might run into that as well.

Lee, Ed & Robin thank you. I ordered my bellow up pipes from Clay thursday along with other things and got my Magnaflow Exhaust from Clay Friday. Great service, I wish the up pipes were here so I could get them in. He said Monday and thats about right.
Robin I'll be calling you later in the year on the 200 sticks. I've made up my mine that is what I want but still want to pick your brain when the time comes. I try and do the signature when I have time to sit down longer and play with it. God bless all. Chet
