I agree I've hade my stageI's for a week now and I fail in love with my rig all over again.
If I just roll into the skinny pedal to pass someone my boost jumps to 18-20 psi and you can feel it pulling on your neck
Im curious, if i got stage II's would that be to much overkill for a daily driver?? I know my mpg will go down, but i would like to make my this bad boy ready for later in life when i have the money to dump E-fuel and rods.. etc Im contemplating on geting Hybrids or II's not to hijack..
If you wanna go big latter then do hybrids they can be down tuned for now and after you get the supporting mods you can send your chip out to be burned for the hybrids
It doesn't make sense to me to have anything run on vaccuum on a diesel that doesn't create vaccuum... but the heater vents need it.
+1; Ford could've converted to mechanical (cable) or electric HVAC controls years earlier, and with hydroboost, you wouldn't need an mechanical or electric vac pump. But they're famous for being the last to discard old technologies; just check out the glorified rag joint just outside the steering box.
Evan you got a link to a writeup or somebody that sells the kit? Is it pretty easy?
Thanks all for the info.
Several people have done the swap on here, if you search the 94.5-97 PSD forum for Hydroboost you should find a few different ones. I'll try to find a link to them for you.
The '97 F-superduty came with hydroboost, the steering box is the same, the pump is identical except the hydroboost pump has two return lines (you can use your stock one and just "T" the return lines together.
If you use your stock master cylinder you have to cut off the "ears" of the mounting holes because the hydroboost bolts are slightly farther apart, or you can upgrade to the larger F-superduty master cylinder.
Make sure you get a hydroboost unit that comes with the rod going to the brake pedal.
Besides that you just need the two new hoses, one from the pump to the hydro, one from the hydro to the box, then just get bulk steering hose for the two return lines, one from the hydro to the pump, the other from the box to the pump.
You can get a new hydro unit and all the lines from Autozone, about $250 for the hydro stuff, minus the pump and box.
