Just stepped out to check but my Texas registered unit does not have truck plates either. Neither do the SUVs. Never had a problem being in "Truck Only Loading/Unloading" zones though.
In the past it used to be an option. I remember talking with a dealer when buying a minivan many years ago and being asked whether I wanted it registered as a car or a truck. Truck was about $20/year more. The EX was purchased used and was already Texas registered and so the subject never came up.
Maybe excursions are really scooters or mopeds like Vespas
They are almost exactly the same, only difference is they are way bigger, weigh a lot more, have four wheels, seat more than one and half, can tow anything, you don't have to wear the silly little helmet, can drive in the HOV lane, you can fit twelve Vespa's in the back, and you don't look like a tool driving one. I'm sure I've missed a few but other than that they are almost exactly the same.
An excursion with 7 people in it is getting greater MPG per person than my quinchi scooter did. I only got like 55-60 mpg in it. I can get at least 17 in my truck.
