You can throw the blue book, black book, NADA, and Kelley out the window when it comes to 7.3L Excursions. Low mileage, good condition examples are so rare that they are hard to pinpoint. I just missed buying a mineral gray 2003 Limited 4x4 7.3L that was pretty clean, no third row, 2nd row bench with RSE, 125k miles for $16,400, thats wholesale price to a dealer. That was a $20k truck easy. A dealer in Oklahoma had it for sale for $20,900 first, then $18,900, then $16,900. I dont understand how he didnt sell it. He didnt advertise it on any of the major car sites though. I saw it on a dealer-only website and by the time I called, some other dealer already bought it. One just like it in black with 168k sold for $15,500 at auction in Nebraska just last month. Thats wholesale.
KBB/Edmunds is not accurate for 7.3L equipped trucks especially Excrursions and ESPECIALLY with the low mileage. This is due in no small part to the horrid reputation of the 6.0L and the lousy mileage of the gassers.
Do not get into the mindset that the 7.3L will never have any problems though, they can have their own issues, just not like the 6.0L although diesel maintenance is still expensive.
If you do get that 7.3L for $20k that is a screaming good deal especially the 02 with the updated interior from 00/01. However, if this guy knows what he has and can wait, I really doubt you will. I know there are guys on here who would be banging this guys door down with $23,000 ready to go if he was close to them and the truck was 100% clean. Good luck though and let us know how it goes, definitely hoping you can get him to budge on the price.
Um, color should not be a consideration for those miles and that price I would live with the color. Tell her you'll paint it and honestly, you'll still probably have paid less than some did for their low mileage diesel.
The picture is washed out, what color is it? It looks like dark shadow grey but I know the champagn/tan color can look a lot like the grey depending on the lighting.
I have tried damn near everything. She just gets pissed!!! If mama ain't happy ain't no one happy. Ha ha ha. It is that time of the month. Maybe a bad time to persuade her about the color. I will tell her that we will paint it and see what happens. I told her over and over about the mileage and color stuff and no budging. I am baffled by this she normally is really cool about thing a bit dang!!!
Sure looks like a Mineral Gray Limited to me. I should know, I've got two of them...
I'll admit, with both side by side, the '02 Mineral Gray looks more brown than the '05 version does. Might just be the paint mix too, or dirt embedded in the '02 paint.
I believe its the mineral gray. I bought her a Lincoln navigator for her birthday and christmas 2 years ago. That was before I got to know about the 7.3. So the following year I came up on a 97 obs crewcab 4x4 dually flatbed manual with PTO driven winch with 112k on the clock for $6500. Oh believe me I was goin to just get it but it ain't worth a divorce!! lol. Very touchy subject I guess. Someone needs to scoop this thing up cause I just can't do it. Spread the word to people who really appreciate the great 7.3!!! Thanks for all your help and influence it just ain't happening, just got to keep looking!! If anyone knows about any for sale let me know. She prefers ( or should I say demands) white or silver. 4x4 leather thanks again. I absolutely hate to miss out on this rig!!
Ugh, that might be worth a divorce for me if I found my dream truck and the wife said no because of the color. Demanding colors in a truck that rare with those miles at that price... I don't think it is pricey at all for what it is, there are a few 7.3L 02 and 03s listed within 1000 miles of me that are over 100k miles and right in that price range, this one is a steal. Hell even the black 00 7.3L I saw in VA with 77,000 original miles was in the $20k range.
There is no "used car store". When it comes to used cars, especially rare ones, you cant be too picky. Whats wrong with mineral gray anyway? Looks great in person, I think.
