Hey new here but need some help. Got stuck in mud and tried to pop myself out. Just as I had gotten free truck dies and won't start back up. I have topped off fluids that were lower then I want to admit. I charged both batteries. I don't know what easy stuff to try next. I have had many engine repairs done under warranty and after. Costing me tons of money. This all do to high pressure system (6.0 enough said). But this does not act that way. It seems like it is out of diesel, but its not. I put 5 Gals in just to be sure it was not a needle issue.
I need to proceed as cheap as possible. Money is big object right now. If there are any ideas I am all ears. Not much of a mechanic so you not going to offend me. Only doing this myself cause I have to.
I assume the truck is cranking? Start by checking to see if you have fuel pressure, either by gauge or remove the fuel filter under the hood and check for fuel. Also, a scan tool to check for codes would be a very good idea right now.
Since you were stuck in mud, and then it died, do you think these are related? The fuel pump is under the cab on the frame rail. It might have been damaged. When you turn the key on, if you get down close to the pump you should hear it running for 20 seconds or so. If it is running, then you can pull the small fuel filter cap off (the one on top of the engine) and see if it fills with fuel.
You mentioned overheating, but then didn't tell us why?
When I say overheat I never saw any indication on gauges. It was just hot in the resivoir. It took a gallon of water and a gallon of antifreeze. I also put two qt of motor oil. A neigbor just helped pull it out the rest of the way. We carged it and shot it with either in the air intake. It acted like it wanted to start. I want to check out this fuel pump next.
Shy of paying a lot to have a diognostic service come, What does one of those scan tool cost? Or can I rent one?
dont use either on your motor your motor fires off compression that either is banging befor your piston gets to top of its stroke lots of stress on them poor rods

That's quite a bit of oil & coolant missing...why? I wouldn't trust the factory gauges, they're over-glorifed idiot lights. The oil pressure gauge is a good case in-point, it only takes 7 psi for it to show "normal" which is way below where it needs to be.

As already stated...don't either your engine. The glow plugs can light the either off. Not to mention the damage to the connecting rods.

I've seen ScanGauge II going on Amazon for $130-ish recently. That will allow you to not only see stored codes (regardless if a check engine light is on) but to dianose cooling system issues. If your not mechinally inclined...you might be better off getting a diesel mechanic involved because the 6.0L isn't a simple engine to work on.
