It is easy to install, don't worry about it. When I have something broken I figure what is the worst that can happen, I break it further? lol

That's actually my rationale on something too, lol...like the FICM, after Ford handed me a $1500 estimate (FICM part, programming and installation, and the batteries), I figured the truck already doesnt run, not too much more can happen from this lol, and I had other vehicles to drive so I tackled it. But the cooling system is not broken, LOL. I am sure one would argue that it comes from Ford "broken" however, ha

Something like that, what is the worst that can happen? You cut the wrong hose? I'll send ya the $20 for new hoses.

It is a piece of cake. Make sure you get extra filters. I put my coolant filter on at ~60k after everybody asked about it right away when I bought the truck. I change it every 10k or so and still get crud out of there.

The FICM reminds me, I have to get my truck into the dealership before the warranty is up and have that looked at. My Insight is showing FICM voltage of 43.5 on cold starts at times.

Holy Smokes thats crazy

I stoped using Dealers when I got hit 500.00 for an alternator that died 13 months and 5000 miles later

Guess I shouldnt say I stopped using the dealers cuz you never know if the PCM or something goes out and you need it programmed but for basic stuff I try and turn the wrenches at that

Yes, according to the breakdown (because I had to ask, lol), the FICM is around $800, and installation and programming is $400. After i actually finished installing the FICM, it was definitely a PITA because its pretty tight in there, but if I got $400 out of someone for that, I would fell like a total...."baller", LOL!! For what Ford wanted $1500 I did for about $600 - $700, smh.

That is why I am back and forth on the flush, if it does indeed plug the oil cooler, I surely do not have the money to have the dealer replace right now, nor do I have the mechanical ability to replace it myself! I am sure an oil cooler job at Ford is what? Like $1400 or so?

I got quoted 1200.00$$ for labor to install the oil cooler from the dealer here by me
I paid like 325.00 for the oil cooler kit itself. should have got it from Parts guy ed he is like 215.00 for the oil cooler

It might have cost me 600.00 to do my oil cooler with fluids new oil and coolant an intake gasket set and turbo hardware kit
some of those gaskets are reusable Im just thuro or Anel which ewver you pick

What is your temp spread maybe its not that bad and you dont need to worrey about it

Yes I have Scanguage, the oil temp is AWESOME, stays well within the 15 degree threshold. Nothing I am worrying about now, I am just thinking if I get the dealer to flush, that could kill it off quicker!

I agree no sense in stiring up a Hornets nest or fixing something thats not broken

But if your spread is good theres no sense in running cleaners pullen thermostats out and going to town agitating the system stiring junk up

If I was you Id drain at the radiator petcock & pull the driverside block drain plug and fill with distilled water a few times and put some new coolant back in it Ford gold or an ELC if you want then put a coolant filter on it and call it good

When I mentioned all that back a few posts about vc-9 and back flushing oil coolers and pulling the thermostat
I just figured your oil cooler was getting clogged But that dont sound like the case here

OK I am with you, yes like i mentioned earlier temps are good and I was definitely scared of making it worse by doing the flush. I will attempt to do the drain and fill one day when there is some good weather. Sounds a lot cheaper than what ever Ford was going to charge me for the flush.

I agree, I would stay away from an aggressive flushing agent like VC-9, which the dealer will more then likely use. I've had customers who had issues shortly after getting someone to flush there coolant system.

Just flush it out with some water a couple times and refill with concentrated extended life anti-freeze. While your flushing the system installing a coolant filter would be good insurance to keep your oil cooler healthy.
