truck dies at odd times

When I turn the steering wheel all the way one way the truck dies and I was on the highway and getting off the highway and I was doing about 60 and put it in neutral and I was coasting and it died... when I put it in neutral the tach went down to idle then the needle went up to about 1500 and dropped back down to idle then the truck died. Any ideas?

Wow, this is becoming a common thread!

It should be throwing a code or check engine light should be on if it is. If not, I'd check your throttle body and give it a good cleaning, especially if you've installed an aftermarket, oiled air filter. They allow oil and then dirt to build in the TB.

Remove the TB, use some carb cleaner along with a tooth brush and give it a good cleaning.

If you dont have the scanner, take it to Auto-Zone and they'll scan it fo ya for free to show any codes. I'd try all this as this is what it sounds like and it's alot cheaper than replacing the MAF, TPS etc.

Make sure ya replace the TB gasket and give the entire air intake a cleaning while you've got it apart also. Any deviation on the TB will cause issues.

Good luck and let us know how ya make out.

A buddy of mine had this happen on an older car of his when he would take turns or something to move the body of the vehicle around some and it would shut down on him. The issue ended up being a tear in his intake line and it was choking out the engine with too much air at once. It never threw a code but this was back in the 90's so you would think the computers have improved and would be able to spot this for you. Once he sealed the tear the problem went away.
