Can't get a code for a 2004 Explorer

Unhappy Can't get a code for a 2004 Explorer
My SES light came on tried to read the codes all we could get was "ERROR" there was no code and could not reset the light...any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum!

I'm assuming the "Error" was reported by the scan tool, not the information center in the Explorer, correct? There's a chance that your scan tool is not capable of monitoring the particular OBD-II protocol used by your 2004 Explorer. Is your scan tool CAN compatible?

The reader works on the 03's it is suppose to be compatible.

I'm not sure if the 2003 was the same protocol as the 2004 or not.
