ok i swear i can hear an exhaust leak during "cold" starts & while trying to find it i saw this & it did it again today but i was prepared to record this video w/my phone...What do u guys think ??
BTW: i cant find a exhaust leak (by feeling around) but i swear i hear it
Oh...this is on the Drivers Side / Front Cylinder (#2) exhaust manifold
yeah i could but i thought by using the Flashlight it highlights the "Froth"
i didnt see anything out of the ordinary anywhere else & i dont see any coolant loss & truck runs fine
btw....as soon as manifold starts to get hot this disappears (a minute or so)
Thanks steve but iam trying to find out what u all think about the "Frothing" that i seen at the manifold/head area (see video) while lookin for the leak.
What could cause it & how concerned i must be (cause iam now)...
I would think that is coolant. If it is coolant and its comming through your exhaust I would think it points tward a cracked head or a lifting head. Now dont freak out it is so hard to tell whats going on in your video on my screen. There is a few tests you can do to determine if im just full of crap. How does your degas bottle look? Coolant level ok? The only reason I dident post this last time is It really is tough to see whats happening and I dident want to freak you out for no reason.
Gotta be a manifold leak and when it heats up the iron expands and seals the leak....the "froth"???? Without a sample, we are all guessing. I'd stick a test strip in the coolant tank.
A test strip for what & where do i get it
As far as DeGas bottle...What am i lookin for
The level is perfect now (almost on max) cause i just changed that thermostat & as far as i recall it was perfect level before that, now i did notice as very small amount of "white froth" in bottle around cap but hell you almost always see that in vehicles with DeGas bottles....
is it inside the cap or outside on the degas bottle? I think Bpofmd is reffering to test strips that test for exhaust in your coolant which would point to a head gasket problem. I am not sure where you would get those at but I would imagine they would have something like that at a autoparts store like Napa.

Lots of recent talk about this ............. It would identifiy a head problem (crack), a head gasket problem, or a bad EGR cooler. It would not distinguish which one.
06_KingRanch : I would check for coolant under the EGR valve.
ok pulled EGR & its dry as a bone & not even very dirty (looks new). I also checked in DeGas bottle again & aside from a very small amount on inside of cap i dont see anything in there alarming.
As far as exhaust leak goes ive had no luck finding anything except where my new exhaust system & catalitic converter bolt togeather (MBRP is sending me a new gasket free of charge) so maybe that sound is just traveling.
Another thing i noticed...after the truck has sat a couple days i looked for the "froth" again & actually noticed it comes out of Both sides of Front & Rear cylinders for just a minute or so (now it takes a minute after startup for it to happen).... Can it just be condensation
With my Gas'r engines during this time of year it will dump water out of exhaust tailpipe for a moment & since ive never seen the diesel do that maybe this is its way of getting rid of moisture (maybe all our trucks do it). Its just a thought since my truck runs great & iam hopeing theres NO head gasket issues
The EGR/intake both look good but that crap on the inside of your Degas bottle cap looks BAD. Have you wiped it out with a paper towel to determine what it was? It almost looks like oil/water residue.
As far as the coolant level you posted earlier about being being at the "max" line, the level is actually correct at 1/2 to 3/4" BELOW the minimum line (unless your bottle has just one line). That isn't really a concern but you might have some pukage at some point due to overfilling but not necessarily because you have a real mechanical problem. I'm confused about the froth/bubbles in the bottle. I've never seen or had bubbles in my bottle even after running the dog snot out of my truck. The ONLY time I saw bubbles is after doing a simple green flush that took several flushes to remove and that wasn't from coolant.
I am very curious at this point about the bubbling manifolds.
