2000 miles road trip

Just got back home from my 2000 miles round trip road trip driving north to Montana for the holiday. The ride was quite comfortable with smooth ride all the way. Finally put that DVD entertainment in good use in the back seat. Had a snow storm in Wyoming, drove 100-120 miles in snow and had to use 4x4 Hi the entire storm before spending the overnight stay in Casper (never done that before, driving the 4x4 that long on snowy road, hope it wouldn't hurt in long run). The Michelin LTX AT2 gripped well in the snow and ice. Glad to have those shoes on the truck. On the way up, averaged around 15.5 mph, driving 75-80 most of the way except for the snow storm went around 50 for couple hours. On the way down back home got 16.5 mpg average. Am pleased but was hoping for slightly better gas mileage, but with the winter driving, it should be expected.
Got a good deal in local Montana on 09 Fusion SEL with 4 banger (30K miles) for the wife, brought it home as well. The Fusion netted 32 mpg on the way back. Can't compete with that!

Since my purchase last June, have put up 9000 miles on this "new" truck, now have 38K on it. Am really glad to own this one.
It ain't just the winter gas, that 75-80 is pushing a lot of brick through air fast and out there, altitude changes come slow over many miles and often are not so appearant.
Mine drops to 16-17 at 75-80 too ..... but get's 18 at 70 ish ..... and if I stay 60-65, then 19-20+ is pretty easy.
But then 1000 miles at 75 is 13 hrs 20 minutes, at 60 it's 16 hrs 40 minutes driving time. I could easily stretch that drive into 18 hours, my BIL would try for 12? His day for a big ticket is coming.

I figure mileage at every stop using miles and gallons, when she shuts off it's very nearly packed. I find that if I don't stop between fill ups (where the SGII resets thus interupting average mileage), if I fill up level every time .... the ScanGauge II Average MPG reading is always within a tenth or so MPG of the math on my '07. It uses GPH and Speed and if the sensors / PCM send good info in, it updates an accurate average as you go along. I also display the instant MPG just above the AvMPG and adjust my foot to maintain smooth road speed and maximise the instant MPG.
I find that using CC cost you a good MPG in mileage if your technique is good so I rarely use cruise.
As long as it was slick-slick snow covered roadway you didn't hurt it (but then if that slick, I'ld have been going slower as we often found more wrecked 4X4s in such conditions on our Interstates). If it was just a skiff of blowing snow and not really that slick, you made some heat.
