Just had this code on my 97 Explorer.
The Description is
A large leak exists in the Evaporative Emission Control System
Does anybody have any ideas on where to start looking for this problem, if any?
The truck runs okay, only a slight rough idle after coming to a stop
There is a charcoal canister and a vent solenoid. This valve is prone to rusting into the open position. If it looks bad, it probably is bad. Mine went on my 97. Valve is about $36 at dealer. Don't damage the plastic valve support, you won't get a new one with the valve. Testing: this valve is normally open and applying power to it will close it. Don't think it has an internal diode in it but test it with a brake lamp in series with the 12V just in case. Hoses come apart without any special tools though the mounting plate bolts will be prety rusted by now. Not too hard of a job. This is the primary suspect. If this checks ok then there is another valve under the hood.
