1. take your sweet *** time with this one.
2. turn key to on and place gera selector in park (if auto trans)
3. the dash pops odd so that part is easy, you will have to remove the radio. it is held in by clips behind the dash panel.
4. disconnect any wire connectors you see (4wd switch?)
5. take dash out of way and let it lay to the left of steering wheel, no need to disconnect rear defrost or wiper switches, unless you want the dash completely out of the way.
6. you will need a star torx type bit for the dash removal.
7. there are several screws holding the dash in remove them all.
8. (if auto trans) remove the two bolts holding the gear dispplay thing in place and move it out of the way.
9. the gauges pull out easily, the speedo is held in by the speedo cable. push on the right side of the cable(white clip) that will release the speedo cable.
10. once all the gauges are out of the way you will need to remove the gauge cluster itself.
11. the gauge cluster is held in by the wiring harness for it (since you already took out the screws) use a screwdriver to pry at the clips that hold the harness on to the cluster. use caution because if you ground anby wires on the printed circut behind the cluster you will have to buy a new cluster @ 200$, or get one from a boneyard)
12. now that the cluster is out you need to find the power source for the gauges. it's the harness connector closest to passenger side. test the leads with the multi meter. (with parking lights on) to see where you get power, to find the right power source turn the lights off, you need to have power when lights are on but no power when lights are off. there is only one that does this ( i think it's on the top row, blue wire orange stripe maybe?) none the less i am sure you'll find it.
13. the gauges, if they are like mine they just slip over the gauge needles DO NOT REMOVE THE NEEDLES YOU'LL BREAK EM OFF AND NEED NEW GAUGES! i used super glue to hold the gauges where i wanted them. notice that most likely the new gauges are shaped like your factory gauges, this helps in alignment.
14. did you wire up your power and ground for the new gauges?
15. hide all the new gauge wires as best you can, i cut into the cluster (where the bulbs go) to make it easy to run the wires.
16. now might be a good time to replace all the bulbs in the dash, just so if you blow one next month you dont have to rip the dash apart again.
17. if you want the needles to look orange, use red bulbs in the cluster lights.
18. assembly is reverse of dis-assembly.
