Hey guys, just recently my truck started to smoke white smoke if I'm into it at a high RPM,if idleing normal you don't notice it as much, but if I hit my 1100 RPM high idle it smokes pretty good,it has an oil smell, not diesel, boost seems to be normal, power seems to be normal,we just towed our TT to Gatlinburg and back and I didn't notice it smoking till our second day there....no check engine light,I haven't checked the fuel filter for oil,oil level seemed to stay normal, the coolant level stayed at the normal range, the only difference I've noticed lately is the turbo seems to have more of a whistling sound than before...any and all thoughts are appreciated...thanks..Phil
I just went out to check a few more things, blow by is normal,no pressure there,as far as I can tell there's no oil in the coolant(I didn't have any scientific way to check, just the ole finger dipped in the coolant test),as far as I can tell there is no fuel in the coolant either, though I haven't checked the fuel filter yet,(haven't checked to see if it's black, like maybe if inj.o-rings were bad)..
Thanks Robin,it's not really a"stressed" whine from the turbo, more of a low pitched kinda whistle, just more of it,you still thinking turbo?
Check the compressor wheel for play. The extra whine might be the wheel making contact with the housing. If the wheel has play then pull the down pipe to check for oil. Oil smoke is blue/grey when it goes through the combustion chamber and out the exhaust. White oil smoke is when it leaks past the turbo bearings and out the turbo exhaust outlet.

I'll definitely check the comp.wheel for play in the morning,it doesn't sound like it's hitting the housing, but maybe, I'm not sure if it's blue/grey or white smoke,I just know it's a light smoke, not the normal black smoke, and it mainly smokes when I'm accelerating hard, but it also does it when I have the high idle set...if it was the turbo would it still smoke at idle..

The oil to the Turbo bearings is under LPOP pressure so if the seals leak, oil will leak past even at idle.
The project truck I just bought smokes bad at idle. I noticed today its kinda of an oily smell and looked at the turbo and I think it is leaking. I have to pull the pipe but it looks to be leaking and its down on oil a little . No real smoke on normal acceleration but a lot at idle and a good puff when u just kick it.
Well I went out and pulled the fuel filter and it was still clean, there was no oil,I haven't had time to pull the downpipe yet to check for oil,but the tailpipe was just sooty,no oil at all...
Update: I just put my muffler back on,when I took the straight pipe off I noticed it had a good amount of oil in it,I'm sure it's the turbo causing the smoke, just thought I would post up the findings.I'm gonna get a rebuild kit from Clay.

I was afraid that is want you might find.
If you run it before you rebuild the turbo oil will collect in the muffler. You should put the muffler delete pipe back on. After turbo rebuild power flush exhaust before you put the down pipe back on.
When my TN blew I completely removed the entire exhaust and power flushed each piece, but I had pumped 7 quarts of oil through it.
