Washington State has adopted California's emission standards. To pass they sometimes look at the EGR, always, I am told, at the CAT. So, my thinking was to empty the CAT. Who would know? Of course, for off-road use only....

In California it seems they always look at the cat first when I am getting a late model diesel powered truck smogged. I think they got wise to so many of them 'falling off'!
I do a test pipe. After all, I seem to be doing some sort of testing of things, readings for different temps and what have you. My cat comes home every once in a while.
You can swap back & forth as needed. My old cat is sitting on the shelf in the shop, just in case the day comes that I've got to go get the truck tested.

Yep, 3 nuts and a swap. Easy peasy. Picked mine up from here:
I know this is resurrecting a thread. Anyone find a resource for a diesel 6.0L catalytic converter, CARB 50 state? I just bought an 03' Excursion from Florida and found they straight piped it. Need to get it smogged to get plates and thus need a Cat. Cannot find one anywhere.
NO issues whatsoever if u remove the Cat
I removed my Cat appx 5 years ago when I installed my MBRP Turbo-Back Exhaust system (w/Dual Tails) & installed a Delete Pipe in place of the Cat. The motor & turbo sound better & there are no ill effects of any kind.
Edit: I didn't realize this was such an old thread, should've looked before posting to the OP
