HAPPY NEW YEAR to the FTE community!
Having been absent from the forum for a long time, I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2012. Happy, happy New Year to you, to your family, and the entire FTE community.
Progress on 'Rusty Red,' my '51 Ford 'future' retirement project has been minimal. No actual work on it, but have collected a few parts that will be needed (fuel tank, door glass and window regulator, front bumper, ignition switch (with keys!), fiberglass front fenders, fuel lines, fuel pump, brake lines, seat has been removed and taken to a restoration shop for bead blasting, welding, painting and fitting with new pads, covers, etc. for a Five Star Delux cab (Labaron Bonney kit), rechrome order sent to a Wisconsin shop finally returned after almost a year (poor quality and over priced - lesson learned: buy new or reproduction trim if available).
Have not got the engine to fire or run yet (have not made an extensive effort - might as well wait until there is a glimmer of road worthiness before doing that). Engine seems sound - turns over freely (slowly) with the starter and seems to have decent compression on power stroke and suction on intake stroke. Even if I were to get it to fire, I feel certain that it will need to be pulled out for a complete overhaul. It has sat too long without running and without coolant. Scale, rust and gunk must be extensive in the water jacket.
When spring arrives I hope to get on with some tinkering with old Rusty. I will continue lurking and looking at FTE posts for the Bonus Built era of trucks. I will need your various tips and tricks for tackling some of the numerous tasks I will confront.
Once again, HAPPY NEW YEAR best wishes for your health and prosperity throughout the entire new year.
