Oil dipstick handle..FIXED! (pics)
As you guessed, while preparing the engine for removal couple weeks ago I broke the handle off. Well crap, another thing to replace. Been looking online for one with no luck and I did not want a new one from Ford. The wheels started turning and I bought these parts at the hardware, was gonna use a piece of square aluminum for the handle until I seen these neat little handles that are already threaded. Parts needed, 3/8"I.D. brass tube 1/4" threaded rod 3" long, 3/8" O.D. bronze sleeve bearing 1/4" hole, 1/4" stainless acorn nut, 3/32" roll pin, a little Loc-tite for the acorn nut and the ****.
The second pic shows the broken piece with the new threaded rod, just measure carefully before drilling hole for the roll pin, you may have to grind a little from the bushing to get the same depth in the oil pan. I used approx. 1 1/4" of brass tube as seen in the last pic with it all pinned together. It has a good snug fit over the dipstick tube. You can just barely see the end of the acorn nut in the second pic.Trickiest part is cutting the slot for the dipstick in the end of the threaded rod.
It may look crude, but what the heck, it ain't breakin'.
