my 04 f150 w/ 5.4l has a bad front passenger converter, i am not a mechanic or anything close so i need help. i took it to a mechanic and he said 230 to fix but another said 550. i looked at it and it is welded on, it is throwing the engine light on which tells me it is wired in. so could i just buy another, cut this one off and weld the new one in? any help is appreciated. . thanks.
Yes you can just put a new aftermarket cat in, they are less than $200 from Summitt or Jegs or the like. The light it is throwing is from the O2 sensors sniffing before and after the cat to make sure it is working.
Go back to your previous post and edit out your phone number...
Why do you think you need a new converter? This sentence fragment, "it is throwing the engine light on which tells me it is wired in." makes absolutely no sense at all.
I have to agree with the post above me.
The light for a cat dose not necessarily mean you have a bad cat!
How many miles are on the truck?
What is the actual code # ?
i took it to a mechanic back home, they told me the converter is rattling, and it is causing back pressure. one of my pistons ( if im remembering correctly) is starting to slap bcs of the back pressure. i apologize if i state anything wrong, i am no mechanic and dont know much as far as trucks go. thanks once again
