doesn't idle

I have a 1989 F250 with a 351. It runs just fine except fir that it doesn't idle. The rpms just drop and it dies when I take my foot off the gas. Where should I start?

have you pulled codes? check how with a paper clip at Fordfuelinjection.com

first thought is either Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) or Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

I would try pulling codes, I replaced my tps and 36 dollars later it idled a lot better and didn't stubble off an idle, so I would start with the tps.

1. check if the mil is on for codes 2. IAC carbon build up 3. misfire? 4. bad computer? look for testing instuctions 4. dirty or open maf?

The OP has a 1989 truck, there is no MAF.

FWIW, check for codes even if there is no Check Engine light on. Many times there can be stored codes with no CEL turned on.
