Not all insurance companies will cover a WIF related problem, awhile back on the 6.7 forum this issue was brought up and several posters checked with their carriers. A few reported the WIF damage was not covered.
Geico requires additional coverage for mechanical failures but they do not offer it for diesels.
Interesting... I'll have to look into it more. Maybe it's because I tried to add it on via their website. It allows me to add the coverage for my wife's car but says its unavailable for mine.
I don't think a fuel system ruined by water in the fuel would need to be covered under mechanical failure. It is a comprehensive damage claim. Just like if a tree fell on the truck or your son accidently shot a hole through the block while sighting in his rifle. I mean heck, if I get drunk and drive it into a river they will cover it, surely I'm covered if I unintentionally pump water laden fuel into the tank. I sent progressive an email and ask the question, i'll let y'all know what I get back. It may depend on what state you live in. The states exercise a lot of control over insurance.
Ok so here is an opportunity for some enterprising engineer...Why can't someone engineer a better aftermarket HPFP that doesnt disintegrate and sent metal chips into the system when some water is present?? Or maybe another inline water/fuel separator that actually shows a warning light BEFORE the HPFP fails...Hey Ford...are you listening?
Got a reply from Progressive. As I expected they would not commit to anything in an email. They also said that the state in which we live has a big impact on coverage. Guess I'll go read my policy.
