My '66 F250 4X4 had a group 24 battery in it when I got it. I now replaced it with a group 27. It still looks like a bigger battery will fit. Are they supposed to have a bigger battery than a 27?
Also, my battery is currently held in with a rubber strap. Is the band for around the top and the bolts still available?
Living where it's cold, I've always put the biggest battery that will nicely fit into the battery box on everything I own. Even those that I don't drive through the winter months. Just my opinion though.

That why I upgraded to a group 27. I have never seen a ford that takes a bigger one. I don't want to buy a bigger one and have it not fit.
R-27-F or R-27-FA were the largest batteries available thru 1979 F100/350's. Both are the same dimensions, the FA has more cranking amps.
C5AZ-10718-A = Original 1965/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD (1965/69 LTD, 1967/69 F100/350 & 1967/69 Mustang/Cougar and etc) battery hold down bracket was metal with a rubberized coating.
Battery acid ate thru the coating and/or it flaked off, rust began. In 1970, Ford replaced C5AZ-10718-A with a plastic hold down bracket (D0DZ-10718-A) for use as a service part replacement.
D0DZ-10718-A was also installed in: 1970/72 LTD/Thunderbird/F100/350 / 1970/77 Maverick/Comet/Bronco / 1973 LTD, some 1974 LTD's.
Hold downs are available at many mustang parts dealers run around $10 or so. Googe 1967 mustang battery hold downs for a list of some.
Did'ja read what I typed in post #5 inre to the C5AZ-10718-A / D0DZ-10718-A battery holdown, which is the same as 1965/66 F100/250 2WD, 1966 F100 4WD and 1967/69 Mustang and etc?
The OP has a 1966 F250 4WD, the battery hold down is not the same! See post #7.
