i have been monetering my egt's and they are around 800 degrees after the turbo when crusing at 65mph. question is what is the safe zone? i hear that high EGT temp are the biggest 6.0 killer. this is my first diesel truck so i want it to run as long as possible since repairs are alot more expensive than my ol F150.
You are running a Tuner, (Bank's if I recall) I would move your EGT probe to the drivers side manifold. It will be WAY more accurate, (In relation to what your turbo is seeing temp wise) and is easy to do/get at. I put my probe in, in about 5 minutes. 800* after turbo is probably (this is a guess) 1000-1100*f before turbo. Perfectly safe. You need to worry, at anything holding at or over 1300*f BEFORE TURBO. Your turbo can spike at them level's and be fine though.
You need to pull the pyro and plug the hole and install in the right place to get the right temp readings plus if you turn off your truck to quick you can coke your bearings in the turbo or if you get it to hot. When pulling i try and not to get over 1350* i will back off to 1300* but you need to get the readings from the right spot. Coking, turbo bearing lubrication and engine oil viscosity
You should use a 5w40 Syn oil this will help because a Syn oil will take the heat better than Dino plus your injectors will like it.
This is a must if you pull heavy even if you do not, need for cool down 350*-360* before you turn the key off.
After drilling it out i used a magnet with a paper clip with a L shape on the end clip taped to the magnet run in the hole to remove any steel then tap the hole going only half way with the tap so you do not over size the hole, do not use grease. (the steel is soft so be carefull) Take is slow.

yes i have the banks but i kept getting told to take it off. i am thinking of just running some a-piller gauges ( EGT, BOOST, ETC.) just wanted to know the safe zone. also i try to let the truck idle for about 5 min or so just to let the turbo cool down before i turn the truck off.
