Ok got the t-stat out it's a long stem and opens fine with boiling. Did find some dark oil like slime on the spring side of the t-stat. Any ideas? Thanks for all the inputs so far.
I couldn't smell anything off it just the smell of antifreeze. It seemed to be thicker like oil or does diesel get that way when it mixes with antifreeze? Sitting in my shop the truck starts good and idles smooth with no smoke of any kind. Just the load knock in the top end but one problem at a time. Last time I shut it off I could hear what sounded like boiling or gurgling in the block. It ran approx 2 minutes at idle. Hope this helps. Thanks Ray
If there was fuel in the coolant there would be no doubt it was there. Is the truck stock or modded . There have been cases of the headgasket leaking under boost pressurizing the coolant system.
When I had two cracked injector cups I did not have fuel in my coolant. From what you have said I would bet you have a bad cup or two. Head gaskets failures in 7.3's are rare, especially stock motors.
Thank You Marc, I figured that someone had this same problem but without the diesel in the coolant. The two diesel techs that I talked with in town said inj cups and diesel in the coolant also. I really started 2nd guessing. It must be kind of rare (but possible) since you had it also. Now just need to figure out the upper knock issue. Thinking loose inj, may have cracked the cup. Need to pull the valve covers and keep digging. Thank You everyone for your inputs Ray.
