Tell Me Everything
Tell Me Everything
Hey,
I'm defecting from my last unnamed make and model, and I'm considering a small truck. So tell me the best and the worst about a Ranger!
Also, I've heard tell about getting a "stock" truck that has no bells or whistles. No fancy interior, automatic transmission, sunroof, CD player, automatic junk, or anything along those. Just a simple, plain commercial kind of vehicle. But I've had no luck finding any information about such a vehicle, so here I am.
All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My 97 had the 2.3/5 spd combo and 245,000 on it when I gave it to a former employee as a parting gift, figuring he'd kill it in a year. Now at just under 300k, it's running just as good and I bet he hasn't changed the oil but twice.
Dave is the leader of the Oregon chapter here and has something like 415k on his, wont die.
If you get the 4 banger, make sure to do the timing belt/water pump every now and then. And they have 8 spark plugs, easier to just remove most of the throttle body for changing.
Other than that its basically the same motor that was in the Pinto way back when.
They're slow. very slow. but the fuel economy and reliability is second to none.
Btw, welcome to FTE. Merry Christmas.

Most likely you will have to look for a used Ranger since Ford ended production of Rangers about two weeks ago. Certainly you can't order one built to your specifications.
What options do you want? You can chose from a very basic, plain Jane XL model up to a fully loaded model with all the bells and whistles Ford offered on a Ranger. I could tell you what my "ideal" Ranger would be but that would be based on what I want.
You need to make a list of what you want and go from there.
