Trouble with the ranger...
I've got a 1988 Ranger with a 2.9L engine in it, and the transmission is pretty much shot. From looking through the forums here I've found that it has the A4LD transmission, and that that particular transmission is prone to failure. What I'd like to know is what options do I have as far as getting a used transmission? Which years and models of ford vehicles would fit my truck? I know that the A4ld was used for several years in the ranger and explorer, but I don't know the exact years. Are there any other vehicles that used this transmission, such as the T-bird or cougar? Any help you could offer would be appreciated.

A quick phone call to the local auto wreckers will get you the list of interchangeable donor vehicles.
Converting your truck to manual will get you out from under the A4LD curse!
