So I just recently installed some 4in tapered blocks on the Ex and am wondering what length rear shocks to get? I've read to just get super duty stock length in one thread, + 1 inch because the stocks have excess travel already in another thread and a dozen other combinations. So my setup is stock springs (which are not sagging) and removed the 2in block and added the 4in block. Also, the new blocks did not have the bump stop arms, I don't think this is a problem because I don't rock crawl or go heavy off roading. The most off roading I do is while hunting and mostly on established dirt or stone roads so the added 2 inches aught to be enough right?
You will be fine with a +2.5". Bilstein 5100 series rear shock has nearly 12" of travel from compressed to fully extended. Since it will be extended some from whatever its base point is during installation be it 4" or 6" you will still have plenty of travel stock and a +2.5 will give you an inch or so of travel on top and bottom.
If you notice, the Rancho5000 shows the same rear shock part number for stock and +2.5 lift so they believe the shock has enough travel for that application. The +4 has a different part number.
