So I will add yet another post regarding tire sizes on a '05 SCREW.
The stock size for my truck were 255/70R/17. After getting rid of the crappy stock Generals, I put on a set of 265/70R/17. Now I am looking at getting another set but want to put something a tad more beefier on there...so I am looking at a set of 275/70R/17s. Now, according to the tire size calculator on tires.com - Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing - they recommend "staying within 3% of the diameter/height of the original tire. Any more than this and you face the risk of brake failure."
The 275s show a diameter difference of 3.43% Is that .43% considered a lot or will it be safe to run with those? (I really want to put 285s on there, but that is a difference of 5.05%!! )
You'll be fine! Run with it!
The speedo will be off a touch, and it's not a large enough difference to really affect the trans shift points. If you're extremely concerned about it, then pick up a SCT programmer and change the tire size in the truck's computer.
Keep in mind that if you go up with the size of the tire, you will want to make the neccessary adjustments to the steering components. You will wear tie rods, ball joints, hubs, etc. a little more with the added weight of the larger tires.
