When I bought my 84 F250 it didn't come with a spare. It has dual tanks and is 4x4. Where would the spare tire mount? In the bed or under the truck? I've searched for some pics but can't find any. The bed is off right now.
Anyone have photos of what holds it in place? Mine did not come with one either and I just replaced the rear tank and it did not appear that there was any mounting hardware back there for the spare. I almost went with the over sized fuel tank which eliminates the spare tire area, but decided it might be nice to hide the spare rather than haul it around in the bed.
Back when my '83 was new I was able to secure a bolt-on front mounted spare tire holder, very easy to install & very secure. Save my front end from serious damage when I hit a deer at 70 mph in 2001. Way easier to access the spare for service. This is the only installation I've seen on my travels around the country. Don't know if it's still available.
Trust me. there is a reason there is none of the spare tire mounting stuff left under the truck. It is JUNK. You are far better off leaving the spare in the bed. At least when you need it, it will NOT be rust tight under the truck and you cant get it out
We had a bumper mount front tire holder on our old 77. With a slide in camper with a sliding bumper setup is was a needed install. Worked great, especially in the winter when you needed more heat in that big azz radiator. Depending on the mount style, be careful as they can flex the bumper to the point of cracking on the newer trucks with the thinner bumpers.

Same reason I got mine. The deer I hit damaged the right front side of the bumper but not the spot where the clips for the mount were.
I had to drill holes in the bumper to mount the front license plate to where it could be seen, no big problem doing that.
I used to think the front mounted spare made my temp gauge run higher in the summer, until I had my radiator replaced after the OEM corroded. Problem was really in the radiator.
