I just acquired a new hobbie. An 1987 Ford short bed 4x4 XLT Larriet standard transmission inline 6 engine.
Right now I have no Exhaust on it and will be taking the bed off to fix Rear fuel tank, brake lines and hopefully fix "rust".
While I have the bed off I was wondering if anyone has taken a Spare Tire carrier from a 1992 Explorer(or something else) that is like a screw jack that lets spare tire down and welded or bolted on to the frame or their truck?... I plan to add a trailor hitch and dual exhaust...so will there be room for this big idea?
Can anyone add how difficult this task might be.. or a better idea than a spare tire in the bed.
With a cuttin torch and a welder one should be able to make about anything
Thanks for all the great info on all theFTE forums.

The spare tire carrier on these trucks does screw down to let the tire out, but one side (for some reason) does not screw all the way out of the frame. I had to cut that bolt off so I could completely take the spare tire out to make room for my dual exhaust. I'm not sure if I answered any part of your question, but figured I'd chime in.
I was really wondering if it could be done. I was just under this truck one time and didnt see a place for a spare tire. I thought maybe because it had a duel tank setup.
Thanks for the input bigbluebronco43.. and BTW nice looking Bronco you have..
Oh thanks, but I sold that about a year ago. I just recently purchased (last week) a 94 F150 with an 8 foot bed. And thats actually the truck that I removed the spare tire from. I also have the dual tanks, and it sat right behind the rear tank. My truck came with a tow hitch already installed while the spare tire was installed, but to put my dual exhaust on I had to remove the spare tire completely.
