2011 Job 2 here and 13,400 miles - no coolant check message yet... Maybe it will go off tomorrow now that I read this thread.... I was just at the dealer today getting a refill on my fuel additive bottles too.
Took my truck to another dealer today, they said all 6.7L need tested.
They tested for free, it needed the $7 bottle of additive. Job done.
The Ford parts counters charge $14 for the VC-12. and around $8 for the VC-8. Did they add the right addivtive for the 6.7L? That prices sounds like you got the wrong stuff. If it is the right additive, I'm glad you found a cheaper place to buy it than I found.

According to my owners manual it should be VC-12. Looking at the service receipt they put in VC-8. I've already drove 600 miles with it in there. Whats the difference and is it going to hurt something?
Take your truck back, if the dealer is worth anything, they'll resolve this.
I imagine it needs a flush.
If Ford wanted the 6.7L to use VC-8, they wouldn't have changed anything.
Make sure it's documented with Ford paperwork.
You're not the first one in the internet world who has run into this issue.

Reason: Maybe cheezit or vloney will respond if it needs flushed or not
I had a talk with an fse. I was told what the issue is with non oat basied coolant is.
it seems there is an issue with the nitrate in the coolant reacting with the gaskets.
Guy we can easly test for nitrates so be warned. All it is to testing is a coolant test strip. If you come up positive for nitrate and have an engine issue you may also have a bill isssue.
Thanks. So does the BC-8 increase nitrates in the system whereas the VC-12 decreases it? Sounds like the nitrates are the issue. Doing a search for VC-8 in this forum did not yield any specific answer to the actual compatibility or ill effects.
I will have the dealership flush and fill with fresh VC-3.
Mine came on around 13000 (2011 job 2). Sounds like i can I test this myself and add the stuff if needed, but how do I reset the "check coolant additive" message?
Had mine done today, charged me $25 + tax. Didn't need anything added. Although I watched him do the test and he only drew fluid from the res.I thought it was to be done from the drain? Not sure why or what the difference would be.
I had the dealer check it a while back. He said it was "good to go". I investigated further and found no hand prints on the pet*****, but all over the degas bottle cap. It just infuriates me. I'm waiting for the survey to show up in my mail.
The test kit that ford uses actually tells you to take a sample from the res. It supplies you with a syringe and tube to suck it out of there. This is the info that came with the rotunda kit. Hope this helps farmerdave. I am pretty sure that there is circulation thru the res.
