please HELP

my wifes 2006 explorer with the 4.0 broke its timing chain.........shop said it needs a new motor!!! Why????????

When the timing chain brakes valves can be open when they should be closed and therefore they can hit the piston crowns. Things break and bend. Nothing good comes from that. If they can tell you exactly what was damaged you will have your specifics.

yeah it can do alot of damage.

Maybe you still have some warranty?
