ABS Light on (update 12/22/11)

My ABS Light is on after a complete rear brake job and rear diff lube change. Any ideas? New Rotors, Pads, and rebuilt Park Brake.

My Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) failed immediately after my first diff fluid change. $38 for a new sensor and I was back on the road. I am due for another fluid change...I wonder if the same thing will happen again.

Where did you get your VSS at? Ford or a parts store like AZ, Advance, Napa ?

Have you removed and cleaned the VSS?

VSS through Ed is $23.92. Look under Brakes > Anti-Lock Brakes > Rear Sensor.

Ask your local Ford dealer if they will price match.

When my VSS died my speedo would not work until i had driven over 5-10 mph like from a stop, then it would spring up and show right, and my ABS light would come on. I don't remember the Ford one I got being much more then 30 bucks. It was almost 2 years ago, no problems since.

If you can, have it scanned. A code will tell you which sensor it is. There are two in the front also.

OK got back from town and went out and hooked AE up and got these codes.
1; C1233 Wheel Speed Sensor LF Signal Missing-ABS
2; C1234 Wheel Speed Sensor RF Signal Missing-ABS

How could this be I didn't mess with the front brakes
What do I need to do to fix this?

I wouldn't think so, but I haven't done my rears yet, so I'm not even sure If I have rear ABS?
Was there any wheel sensors on the rears Rich?

Isn't this a front end ABS problem?

No sensors on the rear wheels but to my understanding the VSS is used for the ABS sensor for the rear brakes.

that's what the codes are for but they weren't there before my brake job on the rear brakes. I didn't touch the front.

I get it, I think. Without an operating VSS, the front ABS have no "knowledge" of rear wheel velocity. Is that what you are thinking?

I had my rear VSS go bad on my truck, changed it out and my ABS light went out, but that was before I got AE, so I never pulled codes.
I can unplug my VSS and see what codes I get tomorrow morning. I'm curious now?

I was thinking along those lines, maybe a loop system, a bad sensor and the others get a mixed/no signal.
