Talking BDV 1, Chevy S-10 ZERO

So I am driving a work truck today, and I am minding my own business, driving very responsibly on a side street. As I come to a stop at an intersection, the Chebbie S-10 I'm driving makes this crunching sound right before it stops.
I grin...
Then I make my right turn onto 44th Ave, and accelerate slowly. As soon as the truck shifts into 2nd, it makes this luscious creak-bang-snap-pop-pow-crackle-zing sound, and I pulled it into a lot and walked back to work, thinking to myself how funny it is for a 2000 Chevy Truck to have it's transmission detonate with a mere 35,000 miles on it!
If I wasn't a Ford fan before, I would be now!

funny that you mention it,

On my way back home I saw a brand spankin new 1/2 ton chevy with a whole pile of blue smoke following it right up to the Cheby dealer ship.

Still had the dealers tags on too, bet that person was one upset customer.

My brother's S10 "extreme" has less than 5,000 miles on it and it already has the "check engine" light on....

A couple of years and jobs ago I had a Company 96 S-10. One day I was on my way to an emergency call when the engine started to sputter then stalled. I watched the fuel gauge go from 3/4 to E in 45 seconds. The fuel line split spraying "High Pressure Fuel" all over a hot engine & manifold, I could have ended up being that emergency call! Oh yeah the company I was working for was a Fire Protection Company. No Chevies, No Thanks, No Way!!

I worked for an auto parts store one summer. They had a contract with GMC/Chevy, so they had all S-10's save for one 1994 Ford Ranger that they bought because GM had run out of S-10's at that point.

Every one of the newer S-10's developed auto transmission troubles. THey still have some of them today, but I (hardly) helped two of them go south. (Just driving them made them junk themselves).

Finally, at a garage mechainic job I had at the same time, I got into talking to s nice girl whose parents bought her a S-10. I asked her to look at the owner's manual once I found her tranny fluid really smelled burnt. Turns out GM now recommends ATF to be changed every 15,000 for 'severe' driving (which, as anyone knows, is 'standard' driving of an unloaded pickup in the hills of Pennsylvania with a four cylinder engine - it will shift endlessly).

But I've never heard of that often of a tranny fluid change, and say - aren't we 'progressing' as a culture? Doesn't that mean our products should last longer, and better, than they did 30 years ago? Apparently not.

Im a mechanic as well, we have several s-10 s and silverados coming into our shop all the time. One good thing we make alot of money off of them. my friend is a chevy fan and has a s-10 he has had to replace the transmission twice, he wants to trade it in for a ford now. I own a dodge myself, 2000 ram have had no problems, great for rooting and very comfortable . I live in the country as well have pull out alot of chevys during the winter time. NO CHEVYS

We've got that A4LD behind a 3.0 V6 in our aerostar, never had a problem with it in over 160k miles.
