No check engine light

No check engine light
Hello,
I currently have a 2002 E250 with a tranny problem. Someone asked me if my check engine light is on. It is not on, and it made me check if it is functioning or not. It is supposed to light up for a second when the key is turned, which it does not. I assume there may still be error codes that I do not know about.
Does anyone have any ideas?
