Drain plug thread size?

Went to do the 1st oil change on my 2000 V10 tonight, only to find several threads missing from the drain bolt. I've got to pick up a new bolt in the morning. Hoping I can just chase the threads to clean them up, and install the new one. I wanna say it's around 9/16 diameter, but thinking it would be metric. Thanks in advance.

I never measured my drain plug for diameter or pitch. According to Rock Auto the thread size is M14x1.5 and 14mm = .551" in diameter and 1.5mm = .060" for the pitch.(between 16-17 threads per inch) You can take a small ruler and double check the pitch. There should be about 1/16" from thread crest to crest.(crest is point at the largest diameter)

That sounds right to me. Looks like I'll have to grab a metric tap from a buddy and hope for the best.

14-1.50 was the ticket. Took it nice n slow, worked fine. One thing I noticed was the crazy amount of flex the pan had while putting the tap or bolt it. Will have to look into that once it warms up.
