2003 Explorer Transmision Problem

2003 Explorer Transmision Problem
Hello
I hope some one can give me some advice. We have a 2003 Explorer & my wife went to the store today parked the explorer and went in to shop. When she came out it would shift into reverse & drive but it would not move either way. The rig has around 110,000 miles on it and we have had no transmision issues untill today. The check engine light will come on and then it will go out & not come back on for weeks. It hase been on for the last 4 or 5 days.
I am hoping maybe it is an electrical issue, like a relay, fuse or somthing along this line.
The engine is I beleive 4.0 V-6 and it is 4wd.
If any one could tell me maybe what I could check I sure would appreciate it!
