PO may have changed out the wires on your rig to something other than the stock wiring. If that is the case you will have to figure that out on your own. You may have to do a rewire yourself if you cant figure out what a PO has done. That is where service manuals and wiring diagrams will serve their purpose. Without the use of them it is like trying to drive your car from your house to Sanderson Alaska without the use of a map or gps. You may eventualy get there or maybe not but you will waste alot of time or maybe just give up or be very lost and frustrated.
Anyway Good luck with it Ill try and help if I can.
Ok got the pictures but I can't figure out hoew you guys are posting them on the thread. So I posted it to my gallery for you to use as a reference for your alt wiring
thanks for all the help guys i got it all hooked up it turned out to be the ground wire it dont reach the side of the block to ground to so i have it on a timing cover bolt is that fine? now it should charge the battery how can i test it to make sure?
i think a timing cover bolt should be okay. i can't remember what engine we're talking about...but on my FE, i think the cover is aluminum, and separated from the block by a gasket. but the bolt itself should ground nicely.
i've heard some people say that the ground isn't needed to begin with, as the alternator is already grounded through the mounting brackets. i'll leave that idea up to the experts, though.
do you have a voltmeter? if so, put it across the battery terminals while the truck is running. you want to see something like 13-14 volts, but not much more than that.
Since I'm challenged as to posting pic's with my threafds (even with Buss44's help ) I put the alt pic's in my gallery so head there and you can see what the stock alt wiring I could get a pic of looked like.
I beleave the 64 truck would of had a gen. in it new.
The '64 Ford 100 thru 350 shop manual shows a generator as standard equipment, however several alternators were available as options that year. The Ford 42 amp alt, the Ford 52 amp alt. and the Leece Neville 60 amp alt.
i got the truck running today and drove it for the first time in years i got it and started to replace the core support but thats as far as it got due to other projects finally got a little time to put a running 360 and have it movable atleast heres a pic of it today
