The 3g altetnator is a 1 wire alt found in the 90's vehicles mustangs Taurus crown vics I believe they came in they use a single 1 wire hookup to the alt and they are internally regulated so it bypasses the external regulator a great upgrade and it bolts right up to our brackets I thought when you said the only wire you had was a yellow one I figured you were talking about you having this alt setup thanks for the help I'll be watching for your post on how your 66 is

Looked at the wiring on my 66 this morning, the alt and wiring on it are stock with the extenal regulator etc. The wires you are asking about connect on the back of the alt in the 4 o'clock position the out board of the 2 posts at that location. It was dark and I was looking with a flash light so I don't know where those wires lead to from there. I hope this helps even though it's a different alt.

Thanks any way you could take a picture? For some reason I'm not sure it hooks to the back of the alt I already have one heavy gauge wire connecting to the post on the back of the alt that's marked battery any way you can count how many wires get hooked to the back of the alt

I think at this point you might want to post something like "3g alt wiring help" since my stock wiring and alt on my 66 and the Gm alt on my 64 aren't close to what your needing. Sorry I couldn't clear things up for you.

Gounding wire does go to the starter bolt. Or one of the starter bolts. My 65 F100 4x4 has that same grounding wire. You should have another ground lead comming off the firewall just at the back of the motor going to a bolt on the intake manifold. Your battery should have one comming off of the battery ground to frame just on the other side of the frame rail from the battery holder and battery. When you attach these make sure you clean the area to bare metal for a good ground connection to complete a good electrical circuit to keep from having jeckel and heid electrical problems. Bill may be looking at the brakedown on a 2wd Fe truck if Im not mistaken the battery is up front toward the radiator support and there is a large ground going from the negative side of the battery going to a bolt at the front of the block just behind the alt. It looks as though it goes to the exhaust manifold. I personaly have not seen any ground straps or cables going to these. Not to say you could not put one there though.

I got all my grounds hooked up and had it fired up on new years eve I wasn't sure if a ground went to the starter or not so a ground does go from the frame to the starter mounting bolts on the bellhousing? Current setup is ground battery to frame, frame to a motor mount bolt hole on each side of block and ground from firewall to the throttle linkage on back of motor now I just need to figure out where them 2 wires connected together go at the alt any idea buzz?

Im at work right now. I will do some research on what is there on a 64-65 4x4 for alt connection when I get home from work. I have access to both wiring diagrams at home.

Ok C87B here you go this is the part of the wiring diagram you need.

The wire #26 is the black with a red trace
The #35 is the white wire
The #37 wire is black with yellow trace
The #4 wire is a white with black trace

When I went to check this out for you I found that I had not completely wired mine up. I have yet to complete the blackred to the cover of my regulator and then to the core support as the diagram notes. You cant see it in the pic but it says ground to apron. Mine is mounted on the back of the radiator support yours may be on the fender apron.
If this were in a 2wd on the rt front of the block should be a bolt. This bolt is just behind the alt and that is where (if 2wd the main ground to the battery and the black red would go) as yours and mine are 4wd it is a slightly different setup. Hope this helps. Sorry couldnt give you the whole wiring diagram as my scanner is on the fritz. Just took a macro pic.

Question do you have a black with red trace going to your engine block. If not I would hazard a guess that your double lead splice is that combo of wires that go to the block in the schematic. The place to connect it is on the rigth side of the block at the front of the block just behind the alt. If the bolt is non exsistent you will see a flat spot on the block with a threaded hole. That is where you can connect it to the block.

ok this is right out of the 65 service manual. Between this and the wiring schematic you should have it whipped.

So the double crimped wire in your pics should be at the other end of the single black and red wire you see in this pic and goes to the block. As per the wiring schematic.

I don't have any grounds going from the altetnator to the block yes the double crimped wires the bigger one is striped red the smaller gauge is solid black I thought it was for the battery or a positive charged wire but your saying It's a ground that gos to the block is the factorys double crimped like mine with the smaller wire attached? I remember a bolt on the side of the block right by the alternators bottom long bolt ill have to check the wires when I get home from work but I remember there being a heavy red wire to the battery post on the back of the alt a small white wire a ground and one more wire I hooked to the back only thing left is that crimped one I hope your right on it being a ground so I can finish that part up on the truck
