Going to be ordering some stock tomorrow. I've tossed the idea around about those chrome running boards, But these are sweet! Stole the idea from a google images. Im in love! Either going to powder coat or bed line. What ya'all thinkkk!?
Yea, this guy used some grip tape. Im trying to think of what to do. The ony other thing im going to change will be the angle. I need the foot step lower. My truck is 4 inches higher than stock...(Girlfriend cant jump). haha
Oh man. Me likey! Those make my sticker peck out. I've got the Eddie Bauer fiberglass, body color boards and hate them. I mean they are functional, but falling apart.
The general design and idea has been around for years. We build these for Toyotas at my shop. Pretty much the same, but they have a kickout.
I plan on building some soon without the kickout for my 96' super cab. I don't need the coverage for rockcrawling(I have a buggy for that), so they will only be used for steps. My plan is to run them just far to have a step for the bed as well, but not all the way to the rear wheel well. I want them to help stiffen up the C-channel frame too.
Do NOT use grip take on them. You will regret it the first few times you get in/out with shorts on, and take off all of the skin on the back of your legs getting out.
K, thanks for the input! I was thinking some sort of tack welds in a pattern, big enough to use as grip..And im also thinking using all tubeing so i can angle the steps down a bit.
Traction is really not an issue standing on the bars. Even wet, its not a big deal. IMHO, I would rather have nothing than something that is going to grab clothing and impede exiting the truck.
Trust me on this. We build a lot of rock sliders for trucks/people. You are MUCH better off without anything on them.
I like those! They look very heavy duty and functional, but I think I am with you in that unless you're rock crawling and using these as rock sliders, I would change the angle and lower the step portion slightly. Otherwise, the step is only a few inches lower than just stepping on the rocker panel and getting into the truck.
Here is another design I was considering that uses round material instead of square stock.
For sure these would have to be shortened up or lowered enough that they don't contact the bed when the frame flexes, but I like both designs.
Either way, be sure and post lots of pics, or maybe even start a build thread on the steps so we can document the whole process. That way the rest of us can learn and plan how we will attack our own designs.
I'm going to be building or buying some sliders for my F-150 before too long. Been wondering whether they would actually hit the bed when you flex it or if they would actually stiffen up the frame enough to keep them from hitting the bed....

Jeepincj7, any input on that?
My bed hits mine when it flexes. Mine are N-Fab and I plan to build some drop brackets to lower them just an inch. They mount to the truck not to the frame. If you build them you could try to mount to frame but I don't think it will add much stiffening.

I really want a set like that. That looks more functional and safer to step/stand on than just a price of pipe.
