I have a 2001 f150 with a 4.2 v6 I want to put headers, bigger exhaust, and a k & n air intake on it. Swap out stock plugs for either E3 or the Platinum +4 plugs. Any suggestions on more upgrades? I am on disability
I don't know if you want to hear this but if your looking for an improvement in performance rather than just doing something to please yourself, the changes won't give you any more performance.
Plugs won't do anything, K&N won't do anything and very doubtfull headers will do much anywhere but at high RPM where the truck normally does not run.
Save you money.
Good luck.
Happy Holidays.
looking for performance, gas mileage know the v6 used to be able to give good performance before computers, never tried now. also putting a power programmer in it
long tube headers will help with low-end torque. dont do plugs, never had and luck just stick with motocraft plugs, programmer helps alot. i had a k&n waste of money cost me a new motor, but i did do the gotts mod, helps alot. then you could always turbo charge if you had the money. the more performance you want the less gas mileage youll get.
I did lots of research on plugs when mine needed replaced. I found nothing that said E3 or anything else was better than just the stock replacement. In fact most had problems with anything other than stock.
Headers are not going to help anything but sound. Maybe a few more horses but you are not going to notice it.
I am not a K&N fan but some people swear by them, again you are not going to notice the difference much.
Either a gear change or programmer is all I would do. I am considering a programmer for mine but not seriously. I am also more seriously considering the electric fans.
But if I was limited income I would leave as is as the programmer and fans are for just things to do.
