Question PCV valve

I purchased a new valve for my expy, and it had a straight nipple on it. When I looked under the hood, I swear it had a 90 degree nipple, and a straight hose connected to it. The dealer parts guy called Ford and they say the straight nipple is correct even though the part number on the box is different from the part number on the part. Am I seeing wrong? Thanks.

PCV valve

I found this same problem last month when I replaced the PCV on my 99. If you remove your current PCV valve, you should notice that the 'elbow' can be removed and then reused. Let me tell you upfront, I had a heck of time getting that elbow off intact and undamaged. In the service CD-ROM I have for my 99 (just got a DVD with all uears 96-03), the description section shows an illustration with a PCV valve with the elbow but it appears that Ford has superseded this. I think the only alternative is to contact the parts department at your local Ford dealer and see if you can buy the elbow also!

Angry PCV valve

The fella at the dealer failed to inform me of the separate elbow part, which lead to all this cornfusion in the first place. When I went back to the dealer yesterday to get my part back, I spoke to another person who showed me the pic on their computer. Sure enough they show the separate elbow in the exploded view. If the first guy had made this known, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Some of their valves come with an elbow piece. The dealer part for mine only comes with a new valve cover grommet. BTW, the reasoning given for the straight PCV valve is broader applications w/ the use of a various elbows as needed; makes sense.

Anyway, appreciate your thoughts and will carefully remove the elbow.

Red face PCV valve

Is the little elbow even necessary? I replaced mine a few months back, and I got the straight nipple version - I just plugged it in. Should I drop by the dealer and pick up the little elbow?

PCV valve

Apparently you just reuse the old one. I need it because I don't have a bend in my hose.

I have the 4.6L and I did not have an appropriate bend in the rubber hose! I think that if I had not reused the elbow, it would have pinched the rubber hose closed otherwise.
