Truck is a '95 PSD, and for the past few weeks I've had starting problems. The starter is 11 months old, and when I turn the key to start I get nothing. Plenty of juice for the accessories though. I have to start it with a screwdriver on the relay and that has been working when the key won't start it. Brand new ignition lock too. I pulled the red tops and had them checked, one is only 3 months old the the other is 15 months old. Both checked out at 60%, so I had Autozone charge them back up. I put them back in, still no start. Even with the screwdriver jump. I noticed a bad split on the passenger side battery ground cable though (from the neg. post to the fender). Could this be the cause of my battery drain and no start? would a bad relay fail even with the screwdriver trick? I'm at wits end !!
If you can start it by jumping the relay on the fender but not with the key i would say your relay is bad. I have seen where that relay can cause a draw when it goes bad.
Autozone. Big surprise. The last time I tried to start it the batteries were real low, and five seconds of cranking killed them. Maybe the bad relay was causing a draw.
