Yer gettin' better JWeaver!
The air cleaner doesn't appear to be stock to your truck. It probably had a fabric or hard plastic inlet duct to get cooler and denser air which helps combustion. Same pic, I believe the big holes on the firewall are supposed be for wiring harnesses
I'd take the radio and its assorted wiring out so I don't have to look at it. Before removing, disconnect the negative cable at the battery and then trace the wires from the radio and tag them with masking tape and a Sharpie marker to note where they connected. Some are already tagged on the radio's wire bundle. Avoid cutting any factory wiring. .
The big holes are for defroster ducts. The lil holes were probably for a speaker for the (likely) AM radio. Yep, back in the day ya normally only got one speaker.
Ngeesh. Alot of that wiring in front of your heater box is associated with the fancy audio deck. The use of twist-on wire nuts is a big red flag that the previous owner was a hack... besides other things. Again, I'd remove it and clean up the wiring.
So, tell us the homework you've done. I think if you order some catalogs and look at the parts you can fiigure out alot about these trucks. Not only how much parts cost but many catalogs have exploded drawings for your reference.
