My fuel pump is making a loud whining noise and seems to be getting louder on my 99 F250. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to see what the PSI is but I do have access to AE. I can still hear the noise after the truck has been running after a minute or two. Any input would be much appreciated I hate to just start throwing parts at it.
Rig up a temporary fuel pressure gauge. The pumps can get louder if there's a fuel restriction. If you don't have the time or stuff for a gauge, grab a short piece of fuel line and a can of diesel fuel. Disconnect the fuel line off the back of the fuel pump, stick the rubber hose on the back of the pump and dip the other end inn your container of fuel. Turn the key on and see if the pump is as noisy when it's not pulling fuel from the tank.
Good idea Chris. We'll test it this afternoon.
Hopefully it's just a pump swap and there wont be any tank restrictions, he'll be making the drive back home to FL for the holidays weds, and we dont have anywhere to do the intank mods here.
Frank! If you need the pump back let me know and I'll get it out as fast as I can.
Appreciate the offer Brad, but we (HE) went ahead a put a new pump in. luckily one of the 4 stores within 50 miles of this God forsaken area was a NAPA.
All is quiet again.
