Vinyl roof tops?

It is not a side shot like I think you would want but it is on a 1970 XLT. Scroll down to the 1967-1972 section.....The History Of The Ford F-Series In The 20th Century

Vinyl roof tops?
What you've seen in brochures was not vinyl, because Ford never offered a truck with a vinyl top.
What you prolly did see was either the black or white wrinkle roof painted top that Ford offered 1967/72 for F100/350's & Passenger Cars.
It was sprayed on, either at the factory or by the dealers...to make it appear (from a distance) that the vehicle had a vinyl top.
C7AZ-19500-Y .. Wrinkle Roof Paint-White-One Quart Can.
C7AZ-19500-Z .. Wrinkle Roof Paint-Black-One Quart Can.
There's an FTE SoCal chapter member that has a Lunar Green 1969 F100 with a black wrinkle painted (phony baloney vinyl) top. IMO, It's hideous!
I did scroll down...to the 1970 XLT. This is not a black vinyl top...it just looks like one...because it's wrinkle roof paint.

Bill; glad you mention the spray type cover.
I'm restoring my 64 f100 and my roof was kiss by a tree during the PO life, I'm no great body man and once I repaired the top much as my as my patience allow me to; I spray rustoluem truck bed spray. I didn't do the drip rail and stopped just below the back glass area along the trim line.
Came out pretty good considering I did it.
I never seen wrinkle roof paint at the auto piant store I use; will research that one day.
Thanks.
